Social Media Thoughts

Social media has been part of society for the most part in our generations lives, most people who are reading this blog can relate that they have had social media for as long as they can remember. When social media first came out it was more of a platform for people to express themselves, the negatives were not discovered yet as it was fairly new as well as the users were younger. The Do's and Don'ts of social media can depend on the person as each individual uses it different so whether they do something or do not just depends. For me personally when it comes to social media, I want to use my platforms as a way to connect with people and post content that I find enjoyable. The first Do would be that, I post what I want and do not let others lead me to post other things and the other would be that I do use social media to meet new people. For the Don'ts of it, I would say it would be crucial to not cyberbully, I think no matter what you think of the post that thoughts should be kept personal if they are negative. The second one would be to make sure to not allow randoms to follow you and keep your accounts private. Social media back when I started was new, I used Instagram and Snapchat the most as many people in my generation did. In the beginning, there were not a lot of users so nobody really cared what they posted they just did it for fun. Now with Instagram, some people allow it to control their lives and that one post determines what and how they want to live their lives. The thing I wish I knew about social media would be knowing who is following you and to keep your account private as there are a lot of people out there that want to hack or worse.

When it comes to social media and self-expression there are so many people out there that have their instagram be there whole image, they want to show the world that they have this great life and make a good highlight reel. I feel selfies are good, if someone wants to post that then go for it but when they want to add all the filters then they complain they do not look like their photos then that is another issue. Online image is again a highlight reel because what people post is usually the good things so the goal is to make your image as good as possible. I think there are unwritten rules when it comes to social media but some would include to not post more than one photo a day or other little things but in general there are not a lot. Comparing yourself to others is a big one, this is the leading cause for depression and everyone does it so it is something that people need to be aware of. Quiting social media is good but it is not the way to solve personal issues so I think this can be abused.
